I never thought the build thread would get to 70+ pages and I would do as much research as I have, so to help everyone out I would index the build thread for easier access for everyone to obtain the information they are looking for... enjoy

Back-pressure is a Myth!!!
: What the NA's want it's not "back-pressure", its exhaust velocity. NA's are designed for proper flow of gas-speed may exhibit some degree of "back-pressure" as a necessary evil or result or side-effect, but "back-pressure" in and of itself is NOT a good thing. The larger the exhaust pipe is on an N/A engine the gases slow down & get all swirly, actually causing more "back-pressure". Where with the NA's we want to exit the gases as fast as possible not slow down and create the "back-pressure".

Copper Spark Plugs:
Simply put, Copper spark plugs burn cleaner and have a hotter spark with a more efficient burn. Copper's aren't going to raise your HP numbers. The spark is easier made because the copper is more conductive that the iridium... easier spark, less obtuse idle, not more HP, but a more efficient burn of the spark equaling better pedal performance.

Chapter 3 - Suspension:
The overall saying goes on a FWD car that an upgraded rear is light years ahead of both front and rear upgrades. Pretty much you are canceling out the benefits of the rear (with adding an upgraded front sway) bringing the un-needed understeer back to the car. Rule of thumb is do the rear and see if you need to do the front sway. Also, it's been floated multiple times to just drop and eliminate the front sways on FWDs cars to improve handling. Chapter 4 - Active Grille Shutters (AGS) experimentation:
The Active Grille Shutters or AGS are there for aerodynamics... but, not for "power". The AGS fins when closed direct air flow to bottom of the car for aerodynamics, but as a result they also close off the radiator, which in turn is not getting cold air, thus affecting the MPG's equaling a hotter engine. A hotter engine raises the internal temperatures thus raising the MPG's. Edmunds does a good job stating this here: Active Grille Shutters Are Latest Way To Improve Fuel Efficiency | Edmunds.com

Simply put: Cold Air = Less MPG, but more power / Warm Air = More MPG's, but less power.

The reason you want to open up the AGS is to let the engine breath and get air into the engine, I currently run with 6 AGS fins deleted along with the oil drain panel removed from the Aero plate. The oil panel once removed acts like a vacuum to pull air through the radiator and through the engine bay thus increasing engine cooling. Doing this I was still able to get upwards to 35 MPGs per tank in my lowly ol 2.0. Hopefully this helps ya understand what we're trying to accomplish here as it is a "practical cheap mod" to get a different effect on the engine...

Here are the view little vinyl touches that I did for Aya. I always loved how the Daytona Charger's had the script they did with the "Daytona" on the rear quarter panels. With the Citrus Peel color I knew it would look sweet and just pop. So the wife and I were able to get some to exact specs with the font, length and height that the "Daytona" is made from. So here ya go...

(My wife gets awesome credit for doing the seem for the gas door, looks freaking spot on)

(parked out front of local giant to show y'all the full effect of the vinyl)

Yeah I love the Husky's so far, they do a great job with the coverage and just overall perfect design and from what I was reading a lot easier to clean than the weathertechs.

As far as the dip, I am just going to do the rear emblems to go along with the SXT Wing which is mirror black, so I figured some Black Plasti-Dip and some Gloss and I'll be good. I was thinking about Dipping my tails, but PA is just a pain with things like that, I am not even going to go that route.

Sharkfin, ehh... I've sorta grown to love the little RC car antenna.

With all of this talk about Sharkfins and antennas, I just picked up the following for $7.99:

only about 2.25" tall so a lot smaller than the current one, not bad at all for the price

you won't get reception very well, but it looks a lot better than the stock one.

I had one of these at first, then I splurged on the CravenSpeed Stubby Antenna. reception is almost perfect now.

Yeah, I don't listen to the local stations at all, I'm always on the Sirius/XM or my ipod classic, so I shouldn't be too bad with it all. I was looking into the CravenSpeed one, but as always cutting costs here an there is good for me.

Officially despising winter in PA. All I want to do is finish the build, but Mother Nature has other thoughts (as well as my twin 1 year old girls and 7 year old son).

Trying to be patient sucks when I see all mods and tunes and no time to be able to do it :-/

Added the stubby antenna and my one Mopar sticker. I could only add the Mopar sticker on the drivers side since the one on the passenger side decided to tear in half.

Also yes, I know the sticker is crooked. I tried to line it up with the body lines of her.

@roadrace lightweight pulley installed yesterday. Not pictured but the 2.0L spectrum tuner installed as well, which I will get a picture uploaded of that today as well...

As far as the pulley, I could tell an IMMEDIATE difference in pedal response. Currently 45+ miles to go of the break-in period of the tuner, so once I get through the break-in as well as filler up with 93 octane (we don't have 91 in my area of PA) we'll see what Aya has unleashed.

EDIT:Here is a pic of the tune mounted...

Once, the twins go down for nap this morning/afternoon, the rest of the accessories are goin' on and pics will be uploaded. Stay tuned its beautiful out here in Central PA today...

What performance gains have you noticed with the tuner. And pulley? Also. Where did you purchase these?

#25 ·
So, I am pretty sure my eyes were bigger than my stomach when I took on this build myself... Either that or my wife just knows my limitations when I am by myself. Not being a car guy and or handy with tools really shows what my limitations are...

THINGS THAT DIDN'T GET DONE:
A) Ran into issues with the install of the Rally Armors, I could get the front ones installed no problems, but I apparently am mechanically inclined to figure out the rears.
B) Can't install the Neon-SXT wing because it still has the bolts on the spoiler for bolting it into the trunk, and because I don't have anyway to cut them off, and I didn't want to risk screwing it up myself (IE: Drilling into the trunk and royally being pissed at myself).
C) Rallye Vinyl, well I could have installed it, but after seeing how horrible I did the EZ-Lip (see below) I didn't feel like risking another screw up.

What got done...
Before EZ-Lip:

After EZ-Lip:

I did my best with it, looks okay I guess... I don't know. Maybe I am too hard on myself, it is what it is. But anyway, the build will have to wait for another day. Sorry all...

#28 ·
About an hour for the pulley install. It wasn't hard at all if you have the right tools and a buddy. The hardest part was the removal of the pulley bolt. I guess the impact wrench we had was a little less torque so it took about 20 min to get off and a bunch wd-41 but once it was off it was a piece of cake. Best investment hands down especially when coupled with the spectrum tuner. I'm still in the break in period with the tune, but the change in pedal response due to the pulley is instantaneous.
@roadrace thanks for the words of encouragement, it means a lot. This is really the first time ever I've done anything to a vehicle I've owned so I'm apprehensive and excited all at once. I'm 30 and never had a chance to work on a car before so it's all Greek to me. (My dad used to just take the tools from me and say he'd do it faster... lol).

#30 ·
@youngsmith53 if the bolts are still in the spoiler and you want to get them out with out cutting what you do use a double nut put one nut on about halfway down the length of the bolt then put another on right up against the bolt thats on already then go back to the original bolt and go to unscrew it and it the process it will unscrew the bolt rather then the nut because the other nut is acting as an anchor. this video may help you

#31 ·
Perfect thank you for that information... makes me feel less dumb. Still need it to get warmer down her in Central PA before I get back on the horse and finish her up for the Spring/Summer. Thanks again @bulljp56

#33 ·
Wife just found some extra money from my goof of the tax return, and HR Block found that she was 110% correct so we are getting an amendment to my return and we are getting DOUBLE the refund... she said I can have some more Dart money...PLUS Spring seems to be on its merry way to Central PA so that means the build will finally get done... so stay tuned... :D

So happy we have our own build forum as well, thanks to the Mods!

I personally wouldn't do a hood wrap just for the reason of rocks can chip it fairly easily. I went with a hood wrap on mine. I think it would look good on the citrus just for some good contrast.

#41 ·
I have a lot of contrast coming once it warms up here in Central PA. The contrast is all on the rear of the car though. Black neon SXT wing, trunk black out (not with the raccoon eyes) and black Rallye script in the mold of the Charger Daytona's.

I've always had a dilemma on the hood, stock or black for contrast. I don't want to over power in anyway. So I might just keep stock for now and wait for the scat pack hood in the distant future.

#47 ·
*fingers crossed* I'm hoping to have everything done with her before the April 26th meet...

#48 ·
So just an update on everything... I think I have found a way to set a part the front end without compromising the hood with a blackout or scat pack hood. Stay tuned :)

#49 ·
Okay, I didn't feel like starting a new thread, but I might have to with regards to my question. I am currently looking into wheels/rims, but not necessarily new tires since I don't need them yet... the specs of the wheels are the following:

Size: 17x7
Bolt Pattern: 5x110
Offset: +40
Backspacing (In): 5 5/8"

Would I need to get new tires if I got these wheels? Or would I be able to just move the tires from set to the other? Any help would be appreciated...

thanks!
