About the 2.4 engine...

Seems like it has worse mpg than current darts. Is it a worthy trade-off? Are the same problems going to be there or is the more powerful engine going to remedy them? By problems I mean throttle lag, slow acceleration, struggling w/ AC on, etc.

It's as simple as, we don't know. No one has gotten to drive it yet!

The 2.4 is not worth it in my opinion worse fuel milage mods won't do much for it unless you get some kind of f/I 1.4 is gonna have better mpg just with minor mods be more powerful and a lot more fun!
Keep dreaming

Boltons such as intakes catbacks ext have very little real effect on power in a na car not the case with a turbo especially once you get tuned and you can say well u can turbo/supercharge the 2.4 most likely ull have to upgrade all the internals to be able to hold the boost and it will be some serious $
Intakes and catbacks don't do all that much on forced induction either.

Tuned as in flash the ecu I flashed my ralliart only had a cbe got an extra 39awhp... The only advantage I can see the 2.4 having is the no turbo lag ... But still I don't understand why people whine they have no power from 1000-2500 rmp even with the 2.4 don't expect to much power between there ;)
Wat? Do you really think a forced induction 1.4 will feel the same as a 2.4L NA with more torque?

a lot of the abarth guys have put cars on dynos and just a piggyback box can give you about 185 hp. but the abarth also doesn't have a muffler or resonator, on the other hand the intercoolers are really complicated and probably not as free flowing as the dart. some dyno results show about 195 to 200 hp with mods. of coarse that's not wheel hp, it's taking whp before the mods and finding the % difference to advertised hp and applying that to the whp after the mods to estimate bhp. i don't know why there is an assumption that the 2.4 won't be as tunable. sure it doesn't have a turbo, but the 1.4 turbo doesn't have a ton left to work with.

many honda engines make 100-120 hp/liter N/A sure hey rev high but there is no reason to think a 2.4 can't come close. if they grind cams for the multi air with a tune, intake, throtle body, header back exhaust there is no reason it can't make 250 hp. i don't want to hear that hondas rev to 8000-9000 and the multi air won't i've made 100hp per liter and with inline valve wedge combustion chambers at below 7000 rpm with pump gas friendly compression ratios. doing it with a modern engine at less rpm should not be that challenging.

Brake horsepower (bhp) is measured at the crankshaft, hence my 184 bhp. Dynos read wheel horsepower (whp) but you just convert it or measure the whp of a stock GT and compare it to the customer's whp from their modded 1.4T dyno. It's not impossible. :p

EDIT--Tuned? You're not talking about "tuned" like my VW 1.8T is tuned, unfortunately.

93 if fairly common around here too. Oddly enough I find I get the best mpg using mid-grade though. (89)

Did I say cold air intake ... No short ram is the only thing that really should be used on a f/I car it will increase spool and it will gain you power a cold air intake has pretty much no gain over short ram in my opinion in a f/I car and no it won't be a major gain without a tune but it will be a gain and it won't take much to match the 2.4 it only has 24 HP gain at the crank which doesnt mean it will put that much more down at the wheels either and it is down on torque also we could fight about this forever but just wait for the 2.4 maybe you will understand when 1.4s are blowing by
