Turbo a non- Turbo engine??

Having owned a Caliber srt4, I know the 2.4 in it was built with a stronger crank, better cooling, and oiling to handle the turbo. In other words it was an altogether different engine than the non-turbo 2.4.
Are non turbo engines built tough enough to handle a turbo??

The 2.0 and 2.4 engines actually have forged internals and piston oil squirters these days. Things that were not commonplace back in '03 when the NSRT-4 was brought to the market. They would easily take "a few" pounds of WELL-TUNED boost. But you can most definitely wave your warranty goodbye. And they most certainly would NOT take a hammering (sustained 20+ WELL-TUNED psi) like the NSRT-4 motor will, right out the box.

I believe that is correct. The forged internals and oil squirters came after the '00-'05 time frame. I just read an article on the newest iterations of the tigershark motors. That is why it is so fresh in my noggin lol

Oh dear! Ya that sounds nasty. No more block to curb contact please! lol

Just finished breaking in my new clutch in my NSRT-4... time to install my DiabloSport tune *evil grin*

I would think you would have to figure out how to program the car to accept a turbo too. I've read that the car's computers adjust timing and other engine functions depending on the throttle position, boost, etc. (sorry, don't remember where I read it at)

Exactly... like I said... the most important thing is the car's tune. If someone can get in there (into the PCM) and the car is tuned well, then I don't see why the NA 2.0/2.4 wouldn't handle 6-7 psi reliably.

with the current Compression of the 2.4 being a 10 to 1 your best bet would be close to 7 to 10 PSI. really that is more then enough to put you well into the 250whp area for the everyday driving. trans on other hand. looking at the slipping clutches int he 1.4 guys section id say upgrades would/may need to be done.

also a little info for anything wondering about the supposed 180ft lbs set for the 2.0/2.4 automatics. if the auto could only handle 180 ft lbs and the 2.4 is 171-174 stock. and you did say get the MOPAR Scat Packs(if available) and it placed the car up to 210hp then what would happen tot he TQ of the car? because i dont see them giving you parts that would increase you over the limit of the trans just to watch you go boom. i guarantee the Hyundai sourced tranny will be fine for normal bolt ons.
