Got it. The little orange bushing broke on the transmission side. Its physically too tough to move but if you put the cable but it's in correct spot with the shifter, you can then just plop it right back onto the transmission. I put it on and moved it a few times and it's stayed, I'm gonna throw a ziptie on it right now until the bushing comes in tomorrow.

You guys were such a big help. Huge. I had zero shot at fixing this without you.

I know Im digging up an old post here. But does anyone have the factory part # for the bushing? I found one thru the google machine but I don't know if its the correct one for the car. Dealer says it only comes on the cable. Part # 68001899AA is what I found

Same thing - I used a Zip Tie to fix, now my shifter is STUCK IN NEUTRAL...
I noticed my car was having trouble shifting into Drive, but it wasnt a problem after 1 or 2 tries. this morning it got stuck in neutral. it will not move at all! im stuck in neutral and cant turn my car off :(

Some more detail - my bushing broke so i put a zip tie around it while i waited for the special ordered dart bushing. this morning I reversed out of the drive way and the car would NOT go into drive, so i shifted it up then slowly down, and it got stuck in neutral. it will not move or change gears. The shifter is stuck a little off to the left (where it would normally be in autostick) but it will not move back into the main track to get it into any other gear. I cant even put it into Park or TURN THE CAR OFF to take the keys out! I have it out front, battery is draining, keys stuck inside, and its in neutral with the Ebrake up.

now, my bushing arrives and i pop it in and WALAH! its fixed - but the shifter is stuck still. i tried the override lever under the shifter but that doesnt do anything. When i press down on the button and attempt to shift, it feels connected, just like something is blocking it from going back to the proper PRND track. so i can only move it up and down the +\- autostick column, and slightly to the right, but not enough to switch back to the PRND track.

Please help - what can i do here? (automatic trans)

Sounds like something is broken in the shifter assembly itself, all the friggin internals of that are made of plastic :(

Do you know the part number of the bushing you used?

The SKU for what i used on my automatic was TB1KIT19 from a website called 'Bushingfix'. You definitely don't have to buy the whole cable, I think they're the only seller for this product though( or atleast they were at the time). Glad this thread helped some others.

How difficult is this repair?

I know that this is an old thread, but this just happened to me. I was backing into a parking place. When I tried to put the car in Park, the shifter moved, but the car stayed in Reverse. Is it hard to get to the cable? Are the chances good that the bushing on mine broke also, and not the entire cable? I would really love to NOT give the Dealership tons of money for something that I might be able to fix.

Thank you to everyone, in advance!

I found a bushing that works at my local auto parts store. If anyone else gets directed to this thread, it’s Dorman Shift Linkage Bushing Kit #14055

This kit contains what appears to be a silicone bushing that is not completely rigid. I still warmed it up a bit in warm water to make it slightly more pliable, and was able to easily snap it into place on the cable, and it snaps securely onto the shift plate. I only had to remove the two bolts that anchor the shifter cable to be able to pull it up enough to get my needle nose pliers to help me pop it into place.

This is the site and the correct part. I'm replacing one for the second time. If your car is stuck in gear, you can reach down on top of the transmission and move the gear shift lever very easy. Mine was stuck in reverse, i moved it to neutral to start the car, reverse out of the parking spot and then to drive to get it home. You do need someone to step on the brakes, btw.

It is on bushingfix . com and the part number is TB1KIT19 it sells for 19.99 and is an easy repair.

Once at idle, pull the park brake on snug... you can get out and manually select the desired gear (fwd/rev).
For some just incase extra safety, stand to the side when shifting.

Isaac, you have a failed cable end bushing. You should have gotten a notice that there is a recall for this. If you have a helper, you can manually move the the shift lever on the trans to get it into drive while you hold the brake to get the car to the dealer. Or get it towed.

I changed the gear cables myself on my 2013 Limited Turbo. It wasn’t easy. I’m a Nurse and no mechanic and i did it. I paid for the cables on line and used Chiltons DIY instructions

Had this problem today backed out of a parking space and got stuck in reverse was able to flip the the cable over and get to autozone to buy the dorman bushing but ended up getting stranded at a gas station with no tools so the install was interesting to say the least but seams to work great so far only 13 dollars for the repair. Car manufacturers need to stop using cheep parts this problem could have been a lot worse

Exact same thing here man. At the end of that wire where the bushing is supppsed to be or is and maybe broke so if it broke and fell out, then you will see to the left of your battery accordion looking rubber encasing the wire, (do not pay the dealership a penny) run your hand down the wire covered in black rubber that looks like accordion towards you and you will get to the end. Its a circle on the end of it or there will be a orange circle filling in the hollow circle, that's the bushing. One side the tranny side they are talking about just has a indentation that the top or your tranny switch has a bolt looking thing snaps on there so easy, but if stuck find the tranny switch. It has a u or l shaped basic lever. Have person in drivers seat foot on brake as well as ebrake and I also did chock for wheel because you will be standing in front of it, shifing it into drive. Hope that helps.

if you have the right tools it’s not hard at all and I recommend that you heat up the bushing with a hair dryer or a heat gun to soften it a bit so it will go in easy
