Darts been treating me alright, but i have noticed that i have an overheating issue. cannot seem to narrow it down.
no CEL.
have replaced the thermostat housing around 1,500 miles ago.
coolant levels are OK.
have not done a coolant flush but coolant doesn’t look bad or dirty.
coolant temperature sensor seems it’s also working fine because of the overheating i experience the sensor always reads the same when it does start to overheat so i know that is working.
cooling fan i do notice does not turn on when at operating temperature, but turning the ac on turns the fan on low so the fan works. also have checked the relay for the fan, it’s working properly. if you turn the ac off, the fan then shuts off. yes i know the fan is supposed to turn on with the ac but i'm wondering why it’s not receiving the signal to turn it on when the car reaches its operating temperature.
worse case scenario the water pump is going bad but i would like to eliminate all other possibilities first.
could the module not be sending the signal?
i do have short travels to my work so the weird thing i noticed is that it only overheats when i drive more than 10 miles. it’ll stay at the correct temperature until i have driven a longer distance and then that’s when it slowly starts to overheat. seems when i am driving a steady pace it stays at the right temperature due to the air flow but once i stop and start looking into it as it’s running the fan is not on. so any clue what else i should look into?
i did have issues with my AGS which i have ‘fixed’. it works properly, opens and closes. and does not emit a CEL. so that tells me it’s also hooked up properly. but that’s the only other thing i can think would be causing the fan to not signal on properly.
