There are many threads about oil for the 1.4 but couldn't find much on the 2.0. I have 2 dealers in the area and one says I have to use full synthetic and the other says I can only use a synthetic blended oil. Called Chrysler help line and they didn't really have an answer for me. I was going to use mobil 1 full synthetic. I just want to use the oil recommended for my 2.0. Please help.

R1S is spot on. I would use full synthetic as well, especially with the extended change periods prescribed. My understanding is that you can put full synthetic (or a blend) in a car that only requires conventional, but you can't (or really shouldn't) go the other way.

As far as not finding it in your manual, if you're looking in the little colored book that came in your car that's the "quick start guide". Actual manuals are in 3 places:

1. On the CD that came with the car (PDF)
2. Downloadable from Dodge website (PDF)
3. You can contact Chrysler and they will send you one (as re original owner of the car it's free)

I was always told not to run full synthetic for the first oil change or two so the engine will break-in properly. Is this still true with modern engines? The idea was that full synthetic didn't allow the rings and cylinder to wear together properly, so you should use "worse" oil at first, then use the synthetic.

I just came from a C/D/J dealer here in New Jersey. I have a 2.0 in a Dart SXT with 2000 miles on it and it's time for a change. I bought Mobil 1 0W-20 for about $5.50/quart at Walmart. I went to the dealer for the filters whose list is $18.75, net $14.00. Yes, I know this is outrageous but even more so is they are white with a numerical bar code in yellow, very tiny, and no MOPAR markings. The box is Mopar and the number matches the filter but even the counter guy was surprised. I specifically asked about using Mobil 1 0W-20 and he looked it up in their system and the answer was "yes". So this weekend I hope I don't need a screwdriver to undo Clark Kent's installation of the factory oil filter. Happy New Year everyone@

if the car came with synthetic, run it silly. if it didnt, wait till 10k miles to run synthetic. things are made to wear-in, and this requires a lvl of friction. has ANYBODY asked the dealer parts counter what they sell otc for them??????????? thats what im gonna do for my first oil change. that will narrow it down XD. gonna have to check to be absolutely sure, but im pretty sure mopar isnt going to carry an obscure weight of motor oil in conventional AND synthetic. one of my best friends works at a mopar counter, i will find out 110% for you guys.

This may seem like a dumb question but here it goes. What is the best way to document oil changes that I do? I do not want any warranty issues. I want to get the best deal on the oil that I can. Which means buying gallon containers and so on. So that may not be easy to have one receipt for one oil change. I don't want any problems. I know any way a dealer can get out of it they will. Most will tell you it's always your fault for whatever goes wrong.

@NYBlueDart - In addition to the receipts for gallon container of oil and the new oil filter, I would suggest you take digital photos of your Dart during the oil change process ... the images will have a timestamp on them and can be cross-referenced with the date that you reset the oil change indicator.

Walmart sells multiple brands of full synthetic 0w-20 oil. I run Valvoline synpower with a pure one filter. Cost me $29. And they both meet Chrysler's oil and filter standards. I also made service record print outs. So every time I service the car I can document exactly what I did and didn't do at what mileage. Then I just attach any receipts. Golden!
