I was wondering if anyone had gotten the mopar cat back exhaust for the 2.4l engine? i know they are asking a pretty big chunk of change for it but i am generally curious about how it sounds. I cant seem to find any info about it on the internet.
here is a link to it

Dodge Dart Cat Back Exhaust System (Part No: P5156165)

its also shown in the mopar performance parts catalog next to the brakes packages

You're paying for a name, and name brand parts ontop of a name. Borla parts used under the Mopar name. Everything in that exhaust is legit. No skimping on quality that's for sure. But it's probably still just the similar sound as a heart throb, or Flowmaster exahust which are 1/3 the price. Only one guy i know dropped the money on the turbo one, I couldn't tell much of a difference from a normal muffler delete. But I'm sure he loves it, and it's made from quality parts. It's always nice to keep all Mopar, but not everyone's wallets can agree.

Unfortunately i do not know of any videos or anything to share to back this idea up. It could sound the best, it might sound a little better, it might not sound better than the above at all. We don't know, and I don't think anyone on here has the cash to support it considering there are many other options out there for far less. Personally i would wait until someone else gets it, but that might be a very long time.

Are you sure it's Borla? I bought molar performance exhaust from a dealer for my Ram and turned out to be magnaflow (dead give away was magnaflow part numbers). I would think if it was Borla they'd mention it as they have in past. My buddy said anything I want he will get me at cost but I don't want them to order it for me till I hear it.

The cat-back is made by borla as shown in the installation guide. Mopar will often simply give the task to make performance exhaust to others specialized exhaust company like the challenger and charger mopar catback made by corsa or ram by magnaflow. So you pay for a name over another name.

okay thanks for the input guys! i was really hoping to see if anyone had it here but its alright. the reason i was looking into it even with cheaper options out there is my personal preference on keeping all mopar parts, im just one of those guys haha. But again thanks for responses about it i appreciate it

Let your wallet forgive you... lol

Honestly Mopar has left us out to dry with parts until now. So many aftemarket options have come out that probably well outperform their stuff at a fraction of the cost. Mopar has lost my trust with how they have treated us. Their new parts have been impressive. Like their brake kit, ram air with hood. But far out of any price range I would spend on the Dart just to add a little bit. The brakes honestly are priced well if it comes with the big brake calipers and if I didn't get a stelar deal on R1 Concept rotors for $200 I would have considered it. Who doesn't like big monster Calipers! But after promising parts and after what 3 years finally releasing their "intake" in it's standalone state I said the hell with them. lol

With the new hood and ram air connections it makes it much more appealing though. But to get a similar setup from HPSI I spend $400 vs if I wanted to go that Mopar route (hood ($$$), ram air and vent ($200), Mopar Intake ($300)) I'd be spending well over 2 Grand for it. If I was new in the Dart scene (or someone totals my dart for the SECOND time) and i had a 2016 GT with the hood already I would probably go that route. It's all based on the situation.

Sticking with all Mopar though will be good for warranty work :) I'm waiting for the post still "Dealer voided my warranty for having (insert Mopar performance part here)" lol I wouldn't hold it against them to still do that. Especially like those with the ram air and intake setup.

Given how good the heartthrob sounds, and how expensive the mopar exhaust is.... I have a feeling that finding one actually installed on a car is going to be like finding a freaking unicorn.
Even if I had unlimited funds to spend on parts, I still wouldn't get it simply because I'm a thrifty bastard that hates overpaying. Getting the mopar exhaust feels like buying Beats headphones.

Thats a high price to pay but damn it sound good

i love the idea of keeping the stock factory exhaust note while adding performance, but the "raspy-ness" is what i dont like hearing after doing a muffler delete.

-- some people say you can't avoid the raspy-ness with a small displacement 4-cylinder, its just the nature of the beast...

-- some people say you CAN eliminate the raspy-ness in a 4-cylinder by using the appropriate resonators, such as using 2 of them and choosing the right length for each.

what say you guys, lol?? certainly for me with the 1.4T, exhausting a greater volume of air with no restrictions helps the turbo, and dialing in a nice throaty exhaust note along with delivering performance is optimal, *IF* possible. im still not sure if its possible in the dart 1.4T after watching countless dart videos on youtube and here...

I don't think the 1.4t has the issue because of the turbo. My friend did a simple straight pipe and it sounds amazing. I would have no problem with it. I think the 1.4t has one of the best exhaust note sounds in most cars I have heard that aren't like race cars. lol

I have the heart throb on the 2.4 GT and I don't notice any rasp. The sound is deep and sounds great. I absolutely love it. While I enjoyed the stock exhaust, I didn't think it was that bad, if I'm going to pay over 1k I would rather get something deeper overall and rumble throughout the entire RPM range. We all have our opinions on exhaust, intake, down pipes, tunes, etc. Mine is I am disappointed by this from the video. Could it sound better in person? Yes. But even comparing this to other exhaust videos, this wouldn't be my first choice.

That MOPAR sounds like a more throaty GT exhaust......Still not enough growl for that kinda moolah....

i swear im not trying to derail the thread, but i think you bring up a good point about any dart aftermarket exhaust... from what ive been told and what i've read about 4-cylinder engines, its just not very realistic to think that you can achieve the good "growl". i dont want this thread to become a debate, as this thread is a review of the mopar exhaust which looks awesome btw... i just think its important to note for anyone considering the MOPAR brand cat back, if you are expecting to hear the manly, throaty exhaust growl that is more associated a larger 6 or 8 cylinder engine, you might be chasing a dream with the dart.

mods, if this is derailing, please delete.

I for one completely agree with you on the subject matter. 4 cylinders are always a balance of different sounds, trying to get the exhaust note up and a little deeper without making it very raspy and harsh. Its a hard thing to balance on some engines and i feel mopar did a good middle point with this exhaust not to loud but loud enough to have a presence and keep the annoying rasp to a minimum. I also enjoy the build quality best steel best bends top notch ;)

Hello! sorry if i took a while to respond to you ive been super busy. Anyway the resonators in the back and the one in the middle are all steel colored, there is no paint on them at all. The entire exhaust is made by Borla with t304 steel and mandrel bends the whole way through! i hope this helps answer your question and if you have any further about it ill be happy to answer them for you!

It does answer my question. but I have a few more. I may pull the trigger within the next few days and right now my biggest concern is how it sounds at cruising speeds of 65-75MPH on the highway. I do a lot of highway driving and as much as I want a better exhaust. I don't want to be overwhelmed all the time. How loud is the exhaust in 6th gear?

#37 ·
there is generally not a drone in the cabin because of the resonator that sits right beneath it where the stock one was. but with it being a performance exhaust there still is a louder not to the exhaust but generally on the highway i can put my music up to 15 and drown it out. there system does a very good job of putting the sound behind the car instead of all over it. once you get it take it into a few tunnels and youll see what i mean! i hope this helps!!

The catback exhaust is well balanced, well thought out, and everything an expensive system should be. Ive been on a stock exhaust my entire life, and thus transforms the car into the beast it really should be. A dart really does get power-robbed by the stock system. There is some truth to this thread about how annoying and "raspy" exhaust systems, as well as cheap glasspacks are noisy and crude. Whomever thought out the Mopar catback did so to faithfully balance performance and tone. Its trully a thing of beauty. You can drive it easy, low and rumbly, and not disturb the general public, or go complelely 180 and scream at everyone. Balanced is the key word here. The note is a treat to my ears, and never tire of it.

Some things in life are just worth the extra cash, and this is it. The hidden jem that will make your Dart a different car.
