News | Dodge recalls vacuum tubes ?*no, not that kind

allpar said:
130,000 2013-14 Dodge Darts sold worldwide to inspect and possibly replace vacuum hoses (“vacuum tubes” in their words) on cars with 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines. The 1.4-powered cars are not affected.

The vacuum hose routing may have been incorrect, resulting in oil migration that could cause hard pedal feel and longer stopping in emergencies; oil can degrade the brake booster diaphragm over time.

A tell-tale may be a popping noise, a hissing sound, or hard brake pedal feel. Any customers experiencing this should contact their dealer immediately. The service is done at no cost.

There have been seven accidents resulting in two minor injuries that might be related to this problem. If oil is found in the vacuum hose, dealers will replace the pump, brake booster, and master cylinder. Owners can call 1-800-853-1403 for information.

More recall work for the dealers, at this rate their service departments won't be able to squeeze in oil changes.
that's why you do the oil changes at home :)

my main question about the recall is this... can we find out what VINs are effected? Me personally have never had issues with the brakes on the Dart, I've found them to be the best OEM brakes in a long time and they are only at 22,2xx miles. I haven't felt the brake pedal issues, but watch me go to work tomorrow and there it is... lol

Hi Suzq044,

I checked the system for any recalls on the 2013 - 2014 Dodge Darts with the 2.0 or 2.4 Engines and could not find any recalls relating to vacuum hoses. Do you have a recall number that I can check on?

Thanks,

I think its a more specific reason for the brake recall that was just posted

Looking at my brake booster vacuum hose I don't see where there is a problem. I guess they want to reroute it so that it goes under rather than over everything, so that oil can't pool up inside the booster?

It's just amazing how the slightest engineering change can have massive unintended consequences. GM went though all that grief with their ignition switches simply because of a simple plunger and spring that wasn't beefy enough.
