I have a '13 1.4L turbo with DDCT with 96,000 miles. Recently it has started a whining noise at 1500 RPM. Then went out after work one day and it started making a whole lot of noise. I took it to the local dealer, and they say the pump has gone out on the transmission. They also say I have to buy a new transmission, because these transmissions aren't fixable, they have to be replaced.

Is this a thing, or am I getting hosed? Is this something I could do myself? I have some car knowledge, but have never done major work on a newer car, or front wheel drive. I could have the transmission out of my '68 in an afternoon, rebuild it, and back in the same day.

Also, where should I start looking to purchase replacement parts?

The hydraulic pump assembly is a separate part that can be purchased.
