2.4 Spark Plug (useful info)

Also something no one has brought up, I don't think people need to be running such a massive gap, the OEM gap of .047 is most likely more than enough, for normal city driving and people who don't drive like maniacs the bigger gap is fine, however for more WOT on a frequent basis you actually want a smaller gap.

Can't seem to find the source for this..l
the loss was not time since better times can be had with better driving skills. but i lost over all trapspeed. my 88.5 was reduced to 82.3-82.5 this is a large loss in 1/4 mile. it seemed that i had LOTS of torque to play with around town but the top end suffered. now also, it could very well be that with exhaust and cai i was leaning out and the ecu pulled power and timing. too many variables. i need more time to study. the stocker plugs have made it feel a little slushy in the tq area now. i need more runs with both stock and coppers. and a tune. i know the tune will drastically help that out.

and what do you call rich? at W.O.T. you need to be at 12.8-13.1. you only want 14.7 at idle. and when you coast it will go crazy high.

like i stated. im running tests. if you want to advance the process by tracking your car and helping. proove to me the coppers add power, i know they add tq. but at what cost?

i always run premium, i have cai, hearththrob, rrm pulley mpx shifter, grounding kit for tb.

Damage is unlikely but look into what a ground loop is, I went to measure the throttle body this morning with my multimeter but its batteries were dead and I'm out of triple As, if you have a multimeter use the ohm setting and measure the resistance with and with out your ground, see if it changes at all.
increasing the stock ground is a good thing for these kind of cars. i have been modding cars for over 10 years now. i know how to properly do them. as i said, better throttle response. as i stated before you want to help, test it at the track and tell me your findings. until you can prove that what your feeling is not just placebo effect then i might listen. till then im keeping my coppers out till i can go back to the track. you can expedite this by going to the track. you see where this is going? a circle, a stalemate, a mexican standoff so to say. i know what i feel and untill i have solid proof i will not put them back in till i have tested them.

also i told you that the car ran more smoothly but it was only low end torque gains. but it seemed to sacrifice HP in top end. i dont care if you want to listen or not you will not sway my opinion on this.

I'm not looking to sway or change your opinion and there's no Mexican stand off as I don't have a gun...

I do have a few more questions what gap did you run the copper plugs at, and what gap are you currently running the iridium ones at, also when will you be able to get back to the track with the stock plugs?
well, im starting a new job this weekend and do not know when ill be able to go back to track again. but hopefully in the next two weeks. if anyone else care to help out id appreciate it. i know for a fact i was faster stock. but still, it may very well be without a tune it hurts performance, or my exhaust and cai made the car lean. the gap i ran was .55 on coppers and what ever it was stock for the iridiums. if this job turns out better, i may just get the rrm spectrum for now and run it after a shoot down the track. but a side note, i was out running a few newer si and some celica gts at the track.

im running the .55 gap. i called rrm because the car lost power at the track from what i ran stock. rrm told me to put the stock .47 gap back on the plugs because the stock ignition may not have enough spark to handle that wide a gap. call rrm and ask Boe for better explination. if i try to explian imma screw it up.

ok. sincey last post i have contacted several shops to help me test my theory. alas none have said they would assist in the tests. i jave went back and checked the gap for my stock plugs. they where .o44 to one as large as .o53. i then took my coppers back out of the box after running the stocker plugs again for a week. i regapped the coppers from my original .o53 back to .o47. and the car runs better again. but still no 1/4 mile results to nack this up as of yet.

Coppers 30,000.....? They would last that long, but would probably cost you more in fuel that the 11 dollars it would take to replace them. You could check them and regap them to stretch them out that far, as for me I wouldn't sleep at night. Lol I may have problems:wink:
first off, why do you think they would make your gas mileage go down? a better burn and more efficient burn make the MPG's better. i have not seen a difference in mileage outside of getting around 36-39 hwy for me. how does regapping them stretch them out in terms of longevity? 30K is the max that you can use them and 25K is what im gonna change mine at sooo 40+ for the crappy iridium or 33 for the coppers? its your own prerogative on the situation. i chose coppers because im still testing them. as for DD they are great as long as you keep the gap at the stock .o47(which ill be testing again at the track.)

I to gapped away on my plugs for years...the only difference I noticed was psychological honestly...wider is better tho cause you get a better arc...I also ran the goofy brands including the one with the split tip for "double" the power...factory is just fine...and hey if your tiger has less than 10 k on it then its gonna shake rattle and humm while it settles in..this is normal.
how can the stock plugs be good when they are not even gapped to factory spec? they are just picked up from a bin and shoved into your car. thats not good either.
@jammer41 you have to order them from the parts place autolite copper 5325.
