Service Transmission and Check Engine warnings

2 weeks after having the transmission fluid changed was driving along and the check engine light came on. 2 seconds later "Service Transmission" message appears. Limped home, was able to drive into the dealer next day.
3 different messages came up when they checked the car past Friday afternoon.
Not thrilled with this as the car has 90,000 Kms/56,000 miles in 6 years of ownership

If the issue is in the valve body does the transmission need to be pulled?

Do you know what the codes were? There is a bunch of things that need to be removed to get to the valve body but pulling the trans would be overkill unless the codes pointed to something deeper. Who did the fluid replacement, dealer or trans shop? The DDCT requires a special fluid inside and another with a very similar name for the hydraulics.

      The hydraulic fluid:
C SERIES DDCT SAE 75W HYDRAULIC FLUID:
      Part No. 68092638AA

      The trans fluid:
C SERIES MANUAL & DUAL DRY CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID:
      Quart
      Part No. 68092630AA

      Gallon
      Part No. 68092636AA

      Thanks
It's only ever been at the dealer since bought new in July 2013

The code was P1C99-00-Gear Shift Position Sensor Circuit 1

      Notes on the work:
Checked T42 circuit for open/shor go ground. Found none
Wiggle test transmission wiring harness - working properly
      Cleared DTC
      Road tested
      DTC did not return

I suspect the sensor is going but not quite yet gone

P1C99-00-GEAR SHIFT POSITION SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT

      Theory of Operation

This diagnostic compares the output signal of the sensor to threshold values of normal operations. When the signal is out of range the diagnostic will be considered failing. The sensor is mounted next to the 1st - 3rd gear engagement actuator to detect a linear movement of the piston. For this purpose a permanent magnet is mounted on the piston which is moved over a complete travel stroke. The magnet position generates a saturation area in the internal ferromagnetic core of the sensor which is transformed to an output position signal. The sensor provides an output signal with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) at a fixed frequency and duty cycle proportional to the piston position of the actuator. The PWM duty cycle ranges between 10% and 90%.

      When Monitored and Set Conditions

When Monitored: This diagnostic runs continuously when the following conditions are met:

•Ignition is on or the TCM control unit is in power-on state.
•The engine is not in cranking mode.
      •Power supply is between 7 - 24 volts.
•Main Micro Processor (MMP) supply diagnostics have not failed.
•The Sensor Power Supply 1 (VS1) to the Gear Shift Position Sensor “A” has no electrical failure.

      Set Conditions:

      PWM Duty Cycle Fixed Value:

◦The duty cycle value is continuously fixed between 4% and 6% (i.e. the magnet reference is lost).

      PWM Duty Cycle Check Range:

◦The duty cycle value is more than 90% or less than 10%, but not between 4% and 6% (PWM Duty Cycle Fixed Value).

      Possible Causes

5 VOLT SUPPLY A CIRCUIT OPEN
      1-3 POSITION SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
      SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
1-3 POSITION SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
      1-3 POSITION SENSOR
      TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM)

      Thanks,
No issues for 3 days and short distance < 10 miles driving
As soon as I did > 15 miles the check engine light came on followed by the Service Transmission message and then limp mode
It's back at the dealer I told them don't release it to me until you've replicated, fixed it and done both with at least 15 miles of driving both times....

I suspect I'll get a call next week with the same result... cannot reproduce .....

Well, considering they're probably not going to do a 15+ mile test drive, then no, they probably won't ever be able to reproduce the problem. But wasn't it in limp mode throwing codes when you dropped it off? Anyway, it's not like there are that many possible causes for the problem you're having, so hopefully they can figure it out without being too clueless.

They figured it out... and the total bill is in the $4500 range out the door..

After 6 years and a major service visit just about every 4 months for some unexpected issue it's time to say goodbye .... Name: 2019-04-05.jpg

your problem seems similar to mine... i'd back out of a spot, shift to drive and nothing... the dash would say, "shift to N then back to R or D"... sometimes it would work, but other times, i'd do it a half dozen times then the cel and service trans would light up, and i'd only have gears 2,4,6... but the next morning, it worked fine... how can it fix itself overnight??? they ended up changing a module, and it worked for a week, but then it would start clicking and banging before it did that... i drove home, it was fine, i get off the exit ramp, sitting at the red light, it starts the clicking/banging, and wouldn't go... goes into limp mode again, and again, the next morning its fine... now they say it needs a new trans... wtf??
