      2013 1.4l Transmission Change.

      My dart is currently at 65k miles. I want to change my transmission fluid. I haven't worried about it because of the life seal, but I have done a little research and decided to change it myself. What is the best fluid to use? Also should I flush the transmission or just change the fluid?

      I think there are multiple people planning on doing this quite shortly... I know @starscream5000 said he has some sitting in his garage waiting for a good day... maybe he can tell you what brand it is cause i cant remember. I also have seen another member saying he used Royal Purple Syncromax and it works great for him! As for a flush, I dont think its necessary as long as you let everything take the time to settle after warming it all up so it will pour out nicely like an oil change!

      I recently changed mine and decided to go with Royal Purple Synchromax and am pleased with it. Several members feel one should not stray from the Mopar DDCT fluid. The thread discussing this all, including the drain/fill procedure is here.

      For the standard 6speed transmission you'll use API GL-4 transmission fluid, such as Redline MT-90, which is what I'll be filling mine with. I'm not sure if the transmission case on the DDCT takes a different oil, so you'll need to do your research there. I DO know that the DDCT uses two completely different types of oil, one for the shifting solenoids, which is some kind of hydraulic fluid, and a more normal type of transmission gear oil for the main case.

      The Dart manual calls for the same Mopar C635 DDCT/MTX fluid for both the DDCT and the manual transmission. Redline does not recommend any of their fluids for this application, and Royal Purple states the Synchromax is their recommended fluid.

      If you're under warranty or have concerns, it's probably best to use the Mopar C635 fluid.

      edit: looks like Redline MT-90 is a 75W90 API GL-4. I'll be guinea pig and report any issues that may arise from using it. If shifting performance deteriorates (doubtful) I'll swap it out for something else. I seriously doubt MT-90 doesn't exceed the specs of the stock fill oil.

      75W90 GL-4 gear oil (similar to SAE 5W40/10W40 engine oil viscosity)
      Popular in Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, VW/Audi, Lotus Elise/Exige, Toyota, Mendeola transmissions and Atlas transfer cases for Off Road
      Offers quicker shifts, perfect synchronizer coefficient of friction
      Safe for brass synchros, as it lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils that cause damage
      High performance gear protection and longer synchro life
      Eliminates notchy shifting, even when cold
      Satisfies the gear oil viscosity requirements of 75W90, 80W90, 90 and motor oil viscosities of SAE 40, 10W40, and 15W40
      Recommended for GL-1, GL-3, and GL-4 applications, as well as where most special synchromesh fluids are specified

      I can highly recommend using Royal Purple syncromax, I flushed mine out and it made a big difference in smoothness and shifting. I have not tried Redline, however I do have some MT-90 I picked up for my Volvo S60 M66 manual which is what's specced. My guess is either would work, but cross referencing the Mopar trans fluid brought me to Royal Purple so that's why I went with it. Then again the Volvo M66 manual trans does not have brass syncros from my research.
