...but then every model would need to start with a "J".

I would agree with what mopar22 said. The Golf was ranked one of the best cars in 2015. The Jetta is just a boring, bland vehicle. The Dart offers good value for what it has but obviously it's not the best quality overall.

How are the repair costs of a VW? Have heard in the past that since they are a German car, some of the repair costs can be a bit pricey. Is that a dated outlook?

They might cost a little bit more but overall it's nothing drastic. With the mqb platform (shared with both vw and audi) a ton of parts are shared across the brands

The repair costs for VW aren’t too bad, in my family we bought a 2013 Jetta with the 2.5L (comfortline) brand new and it’s never had a single issue, except 2 months ago it needed a new battery and wipers ( which were an average price, not too expensive to fix ) it is kind of a boring car but it does the trick

If you really like the Dart, consider looking for one that has the 2.0 and no touch screen. It may be a slower engine and the radio doesn't dazzle, but don't you want reliable above all else? Many on here have that engine and a touch screen with no issues but the chances of getting one that is trouble free in the used vehicle market are not that great. Would you trade in a vehicle that is trouble free?
Yeah the reason the dart is appealing to me is because it can be 5000-7000$ cheaper than a vw golf in my area! (British Columbia, Canada) I’m wondering if it’s worth the risk or if I should just spend some more money and get the golf. If I got the dart I would owe 0$ on it and have about 4000$ left in the bank but with the golf I would owe 2000$-3000$ And would have to finance

BTw if you go with a vw there's a company called fcpeuro that has lifetime warranties on all things they sell (including wipers, brakes, and oils)

I say go test drive both and see which you prefer. That's a big price difference.

I've got a 15 Rallye. It doesn't have the touch screen. It has 115,000 miles on it now. The only issue I had was an electrical issue in the steering wheel. It cost me $400, but that's the only issue. My Dart is the best car I have owned so far.
