Flashing Odometer and error code U1040

I recently realized that my speakers have all changed what they sound like (they all are playing the exact same audio, rather than having the smaller speakers play more high-range, and bigger speakers play more mid-range, etc...), and pinpointed the flashing Odometer and error code U1040 as the problem.

So far this is the only problem I have realized with my car after getting that error code, as I know it has something to deal with my BCM. Since I am not familiar with electrical based things, I need some help as to how to fix it, and dont think I need to replace my whole BCM as everything else works in my car... But could be wrong...

The only changes I have made is I installed LED Headlights back in Novemeber, and I have been getting the "Low Beam Headlight Out" message that pops up on my dash every time the car is started. I am working on fixing that currently, but finding the right decoder/resister to do it has become somewhat of a challenge. I also had noticed that the flashing odometer had started after we had some bad weather here in Michigan, and the temps dropping below -40 with my poor Dart sitting outside in it! I never had any problems with the battery during those days though...

Is there anyone out there that can throw there 2 cents into the bucket? I'm unsure if my headlights are causing it, if something happened related to my battery during those days, if something got loose, or if indeed I have to replace my whole BCM just for some odd sounding speakers...

Usually a flashing odometer means the BCM has detected a change and requires a PROXI configuration. You can do your own PROXI with the alfaOBD android app and a OBDLinkMX bluetooth adapter or take it to a dealer. Even if you replaced the BCM, you would need a PROXI.

As far as LED conversions, not much progress with those here on the Dart forum. However if you take a look at the following link on the Ram forum about using alfaOBD:

Looks like I will be picking me up that app and obd2 reader, and looks to be a good investment as I dont care to take it to the dealer and have them charge me even more! I'm glad it sounds like it just needs aligned and nothing needs replaced. Any thought as to why it would just need aligned out of nowhere? It looks to be pretty much everything I can find has people saying they needed an alignment after changing out something electrical (stereo, battery, etc). Just trying to figure out what caused it in the first place so I dont do it again...

Thank you for the help though!

Do you have bluetooth and the 8.4 screen? If so does your bluetooth work or just sit at "loading handsfree"?

Mine has the 8.4, the blinking odometer, and the continuous "loading handsfree". I've been considering the app and the reader also.

I have finally received my my reader and bought alfaobd, but I am a little confused as to how to do a proper alignment?

I found the proxi alignment in the drop down, and it has said it has finished, but my odometer is still flashing... does the car need to be started? Door open? Closed? What do I do after it is completed? I am a bit confused... It is telling me to turn key to stop and wait for power latch to complete?

Looked at the error codes in the BCM, and the only one that shows up is B2204 - ECU Configuration Mismatch

Key should be in the RUN position. Make sure under connection status that it says connected and that you clear any codes first. Select Dodge/Ram. Select Dart (PF). Select Body Computer. Under select control unit, select Body Computer Delphi/Marelli. Touch the Fiat open hood icon. Select procedure to start to open the pull down and then select PROXY alignment, then touch START. You should see it going through all the modules.

28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics / MODULE, Body Control (BCM) / Diagnosis and Testing

B2204-55-ECU CONFIGURATION MISMATCH - NOT CONFIGURED

      Theory of Operation

When replacing a module, a PROXI procedure may need to be completed for that module. The PROXI Alignment Procedure is needed to learn the PROXI Configuration from the BCM. This PROXI information configures the modules based on the content of the vehicle. Refer to the table below for each module requirement.

      •When Monitored:
One time whenever the ignition is turned on.

      •Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) PROXI configuration has not been completed.

The PROXI configuration alignment has not been completed on one or more PROXI user module(s).

      Possible Causes

BCM REPLACED AND RESTORE PROXI CONFIGURATION ROUTINE HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED
PROXI USER MODULE MISMATCH OR PROXI CONFIGURATION ALIGNMENT ROUTINE HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED

That is what I am getting. Followed your steps and it does the same thing, but my odometer is still flashing, and once I turn my car back on the code pops right back up 😓

You may have a faulty BCM. You might be able to find a used BCM at a junkyard. It would need to be the same part number as yours. I believe alfaOBD can write your VIN to a used one. Check with Benny @AllMoparParts.com to see what part number you need. A new one would need to be flashed by a dealer.
