      SOLVED! My random opening trunk

I have a 13 with keyless go and race track lights. My trunk would keep opening on its own for no reason open or shut. I took off my race track light bar to find lots of water inside (see pics). I then removed the trunk button from the lights and it was socked. Few minutes with a hair dryer and boom no more opening trunk unless summoned. Hope this helps. Is this normal to see water inside like this?

the orange line would be the gasket in this case? If so, looks like it is off center and could leak on the left hand side

That could possibly make it worse because the gasket can get permanently compressed. Probably the best solution would be to get a new gasket if available.

Hi! I have the same problem with my trunk popping open with my car running or not. I had it running today in parked and the trunk popped open. Three days ago I was asleep and my husband said my trunk was opened when he went to work and he shut the trunk but it opened again with the dome light coming on and the locks clicking and the outside headlights and track lights flickering on and off. He had to start my car and turn it off shut the trunk and locked the doors and no more that day. Later I went outside and used my remote start and the trunk opened and the locks and lights went crazy as he stated earlier. Any of this happened to you?

This has happened to me before too. It usually happens in the winter, and I've linked it with salt getting on or in the trunk opening switch. One time I just tried knocking on the trunk hood, and it kept opening. All I've done since then is throw water on the outside of the switch to get the salt off of it and that's worked.

I do believe the issue is what is listed above.

I don't have the race track lights on my SE and I have had this happen once while driving to work. Is it possible that there is water getting in anyway? I haven't seen any signs of moisture in the trunk area so far. Any other known issues that cause the trunk to be difficult to close or pop open for no apparent reason?

I had a switch in mine go and was replaced over a year ago. this solved the problem I thought until this winter it started acting up again. I took it back just last week and the switch they put in had a fault in it, so they replaced it for free

Thanks for digging up this thread... I've been having the same issue ever since this huge storm, though it normally tries to open itself while the trunk is already open, meaning I probably have some water sloshing around in there or some loose wiring. I'll to park in the sun and see if I can evaporate it out before trying to take the thing apart myself.
