I've only replaced the dash speakers so far and they are the best $35 I've spent on this car by far.
Would you recommend replacing all 3? Is it really worth replacing to these kickers over the alpines?

There are no Alpine speakers in the dash, if that's what you're thinking. Upgrading the dash speakers makes a HUGE difference in the sound stage.

So when getting the alpine upgrade they include dash speakers that aren't alpine? Mind = blown

You'll be dissapointed when you start pulling speakers out. The only thing of value in the Alpine upgrade is the wiring for all 9 speakers and the amp to power it all.

Wow very interesting! I never messed with speakers on a car, do I just pull factory speaker out and plug new ones into factory wire or is it something more difficult?

Metra sells harness adapters for the door speakers. I was never able to find the proper part number for the adapter to the dash speaker, so I took off the socket on the OEM speakers, removed the microfarad, and used them on the new speakers.

It should be noted that when talking about the Alpine vs 6-speaker setup that the wiring diagram shows the 6 speaker setup doing a passive crossover for the front doors and front dash speakers(that 1uF series capacitor with the dash speaker) but the Alpine schematic shows all of the speakers coming directly from the Alpine amplifier.

This fact is unclear in this thread so far.

Also, a proper crossover could increase the front sound stage by a significant margin. Or installing a low-pass inductor in-line to the door speaker which would essentially be a proper 2-way crossover and significantly easier than finding where those wires split since it could be in the middle of a huge bundle of wires in an obscure part of the dash. Especially the driver's side.

      Did some number crunching.

Are you sure it's 1uF @starscream5000 ? According to the numbers 1uF has a 40KHz 6dB/octave roll-off frequency for a 4 ohm speaker which makes the dash speaker pretty much useless. Then again, you said removing it made a huge difference so that's probably why.

Assuming both speakers are 4 ohm the dash speakers should have 80uF in series with them(non-polarized electrolytic) and the door speakers should have 1.2mH in series with them for a 1000Hz 6dB/octave crossover. The inductors and capacitors can be had at Parts Express: the #1 source for audio, video & speaker building components. The capacitors are $2 each and the inductors range from $8 to $28 depending on what gauge you are after but the $11 18 gauge is more than plenty for a stock setup.
