      Painted Engine Cover

I went ahead and painted my engine cover. I did a layer of DupliColor Adhesion Promoter, a layer of DupliColor MetalCast Base Coat, a layer of DupliColor MetalCast Anodized Red and finally a layer of VHT Engine Enamel Gloss Clear.

The red has a bit of an orange hue to it and the tape made a rough edge in one area in the Grove between the middle textured area. Otherwise, I am happy with it. Will probably do some other items under the hood to match.

Looks great man! I debated trying out the metal cast when choosing my paint. Might have to give it a shot sometime.

I have not yet driven anywhere, so I will let you know how it all responds to the heat. Also, which I noted above, the MetalCast anodized red is not an exact match to the OEM red in the cabin, the Plasti-Dip red or my red vinyl hash strips. It does have a bit of an orange tint.

      That looks really, really good!
You should pull the heat shield off underneath and paint it the same or at least close to, but make sure to use high heat paint 2000 degrees+ if you do.
I painted mine black, but removed the cover...It doesnt look anywhere near as nice as i thought it would, but if i pull the valve cover off and paint that (one day lol) it should look ok. Just keep in mind that theres a bolt in the top right corner of the heat shield that youll likely get stuck on which could scratch the paint when trying to get it back on and be careful with the O2 sensor!

Also, looks like youre low on coolant.

Wow! That looks way better than the OEM boring plastic!

      Love that color!

Haha! I am low on coolant. I noticed this too and am going to top off (I have the Mopar OEM Oat coolant) . Appreciate the keen eye.

I was going to paint the heat shield, that is what I originally bought the paint for. Then I realized they were sensors and other things I needed to remove, so I decided to go for lower hanging fruit right now. I will do the heat shield when I have more time to dedicate to it.

I have to admit each time i look at your pictures i think about doing something like this myself...It looks so damn good!

If you do do the heatshield like i said earlier just watch that bolt. I nicked mine trying to wiggle the shield back into place after i painted it, but the spot isnt all that noticable. The O2 sensor has a clip about 1.5 feet from from the sensor itself just trace it out over the radiator fan, disconnect and slide the shield off. Theres also another heatshield thats below that in two pieces that kind of looks like the legs on a suit of armor though its pretty difficult to get out compared to the top part. It might be easier to get it off if you go underneath or forget about it entirely since you really wont see it...

Heat shield sucks to get back on with a fresh coat of paint. Painted mine once and scratched it to hell getting back it back on so re did the paint and was a lot more careful the second time.

Did you paint the intake tube on the other side of the crinkle tube?
