      Engine idles roughish

      I feel like the car vibrates alot at idle. Doesn't seem like a bad running engine rough idle, seems like it's off balance. Everything is shaking. My VW Passat with 249k miles seem to idle smoother. Any ideas?

      It could be a bad motor mount, but it could also just be that MultiAir engines idle like they're diesels.

      the multiair does make the impression that the engine run rough or like a diesel. If it's the mount just check if they are leaking otherwise they should still be good

      It's a mechanism that actuates the intake valves. It replaces the intake camshaft, and in theory allows for infinitely variable valve timing. It makes the engine significantly more efficient than it would be with a DOHC setup, but is also significantly more complex, which increases cost and reduces reliability (statistically speaking, at least, as MultiAir hasn't proven to be a big source of problems to date).

      I am having a similar issue where my car vibrates at idle and when moving at under 1k rpms. When it gets cold out it seems to get worse. Sometimes when I use the power windows I can feel the vibrations increase. When I turn on the AC it gets pretty bad. I think it could be electrical. Maybe improving the ground wires will help.

      This is really the only issue I have had. The firm suspension and handling are great in my Dart. I wish I had a few more HPs but will eventually go for an intake and maybe the headers.

      The ac thing should be fixed in a recent TSB PCM update

      I hate to bring back an old thread but I’m having these exact same issues as described above anyone have any advice? Right at 1000 rpm i get a shake that’s extremely noticeable but goes away once it’s under or above.

      I am now at 50k with the 2.4 auto and have had no other issues other than oil consumption which is no big issue. I would like to drive some of the other models. I hope there are still some good 2.4s available after my current plays out, or bring the DART back with only the 2.4 or a2.0 with turbo/intercooled. Also shed a few pounds.
