I have a manual 1.4 and have noticed a certain clunking noise under certain conditions. It's been doing it since i got it with 177 miles on it. Sometimes when I'm in 2nd or 3rd and get the rpms up to about 2500 and left off the gas all of a sudden, when the car jerks a bit it makes the clunking noise once or twice. It also happens when I downshift into 2nd or 3rd and don't rev match perfectly or when I shift from 1st to 2nd and start to let out the clutch. It makes me think it might not be the clutch itself but something not tightened correctly but I really have no idea. Anybody else experience this?

Are you finding that the clunking is consistent through all gears or namely 2nd and 3rd?
I would recommend heading to your local dealer on a Saturday and taking an hour or so to compare to other Dart's with the same engine and transmission. This will give you a better idea if anything is problematic.
Keep the thread updated if you can, take care.

Sounds like what happens when you release the clutch quickly without the gas, or adequate use of it. Sounds normal to me. Like you release the clutch to quick and it grabs abruptly.
Similar to what would happen just before it stalls for someone learning stick, only it doesn't get that far.. That make sense?

My ddct does that when down shifting from 2nd to first. Its loud nd sounds nasty.
I do notice it usually happens when I let off the clutch a bit faster, let's say in less traffic to speed up faster, but I've noticed it has started doing it when already in gear and I just let off the gas and momentum shifts and the car slows down and it makes the noise sometimes then too. Is that normal?
This is probably the clutch engaging and disengaging. I don't think always engaged. Only when you're on the throttle. All of my cars with manuals have made this sound. When press on the accelerator it clunks if you were previously off the throttle. Its totally normal.
