      i'm not asking for his "secret recipe", i just want to know which circuits he's tapping into. this is something all prospective buyers should want to know.

      Literally every other car you see here has those blue bulbs with no projectors binding everyone and I get pulled over and ticketed for "imitating an officer" because I had my halos on red during broad daylight so now I just put them on white.. Even though a week before the ticket I was feeling bold and was driving with them changing colors and got let off with a warning..

      Ok, I just gave myself an HID and Ballast crash course so here goes. Some of this you may already know, just starting from the beginning.

      HID headlamps are a kind of arc-light or gas discharge lamp.
      Arc lights are negative resistance devices.
      If you plug a negative resistance device into a constant voltage power supply (i.e. your car) they will continue to draw an increasing amount of current until the lamp or the power supply fails.
      The ballast regulates the current being sent to the lamp, some ballasts can also eliminate "cycling" which occurs when an old HID gets too hot and turns off until it cools. The ballast (if so designed and equipped) will sense this cycle and stop trying to restart until power is shut off and the system gets restarted.

      From what I can tell, all HID lights would require the installation of a ballast between the light and the battery.

      The CAN-bus part means (I think) that this ballast acts as a controller as well and not just an electrical regulator.

      sorry, didn't mean to sound so daft.
      i'm well aware of the inner workings of HIDs. have installed and diagnosed/repaired many.
      i was just wondering what they meant by "Can-bus electronic" ballast. HID ballasts (especially aftermarket ones) do not communicate on the vehicle's CAN bus and,AFAIK, all HID ballasts are "electronic".

      btw, good for you to seek out knowledge on HID operation. :we need a thumbs-up smiley:

      I thought that was weird when you, the fnkychkn, the Dodge insider, he who has come up with all of the technical information asked what a can-bus was lol. But then my curiosity had been stirred and google and wikipedia were summoned. Fortunately I have a rudimentary knowledge of electronics. Dad was a tech in the air force in the 70's and then for FAA, if something electrical broke in the house it got cracked open and more often than not fixed with a soldering iron.
