Took a round trip from Pittsburgh to Dayton Ohio. I re-set the average MPG display to reflect different styles of driving. On the way home, between Dayton and Columbus I drove very conservatively (65 mph) yielding a result of 41.5. But to be fair and accurate, Columbus is 200 ft. lower in elevation than Dayton, 45 miles away. That averages to around 4 ft. down per mile. Is that enough to nullify the result?
I was very comfortable driving. With my bad back, I usually can’t drive comfortably more than a couple hours. But after the 5 hrs. to Dayton, I felt like driving another 5!
I drove more liberally the 200 remaining miles to Pittsburgh; around 70 MPH (but not my usual 80). That showed around 38.5 MPG. Back home near Pittsburgh I’m getting around 29 around our small town and surrounding.
