You do not need an egghead you need a hacker

Not saying they're doing any of this for sure, but they have all the opportunity they need to make what you're wanting practically impossible, and therefore unlikely to be attempted by anyone, even those skilled enough with the desire to tear apart a ~$25,000 vehicle.
EDIT: It would probably turn out to be less pain to try to rip out the Uconnect brains and just re-use the 8.4" touchscreen with a different computer system. That would be unbelievably painful to accomplish, but still easier than homebrewing a custom Uconnect update.

I got the window sticker link from the countless dealer sites that list vehicles and provide a link to their window sticker. The Dodge inventory search page also links to it. I got my full VIN from my dealer's website once it was listed there after being built.
EDIT: Some dealers (including mine) will relay the priced order confirmation during the build, which contains the full VIN, but the window sticker page doesn't seem to work until after the build is complete.
Never underestimate the resourcefulness and will of a car buyer.![]()

The true way to get the system cracked is not really money or what most look at. This is a very tech oriented car that hackers will love to "mod" electronically. If people say it is unbreakable, that is what motivates them. The victory of the kill so to speak and many people taking notice of their skilz. Yes ripping out the locked system is what an egghead would do because that is "easier" and "smarter". But anyone can do that, only a few can back the planet...

I'll pretty much guarantee that you won't see any Dart hacking. The main reason is the potential payout for the effort put in. With playstation3's and iPhones, one person's (or group's) efforts are multiplied to benefit thousands of other people because the devices all use the same protection. In this case, because the Dart's systems are locked to specific VIN's, I'm almost certain that the only person who will benefit will be the one person who happens to have the tools, patience, and money to pull the hack off.. It will be at most a novelty that will satisfy that need to overcome challenge you're talking about, without really being useful to the rest of us.
Sony and Apple would love to use individualized update protection, but can you imagine having to distribute millions of individual update files with as many updates as they push out? The customer service side would be a nightmare. Chrysler can do it because there are fewer vehicles to update and the updates are less frequent.

Knowing the Dart's uConnect works with my phone for BTAudio, I have most everything I need. TuneIn, Music streaming both remotely from "The Cloud" and from a server at home.
As for the TFT screen itself, I hope they offer something unique for the R/T models, such as a 'retro' style speedometer reminiscent of the old 1970 Dart speedo... That would be my only real request over what it has out of the box.
I don't agree that the vin is an issue. Hackers can mod programs for a pc by modifying the part of the program that looks for the verification. Basically, the hack would read the vin of the car, and put that vin into the update. It's not a matter of getting the car to accept the update, but getting the the update to match the car.
Or more likely, there will be a generic update and a separate program that you enter your vin into. Voila, you have the update with the vin embedded.
