Customizing your DART: pictures, site links, and how too videos

First thing ya I know there's a spelling mistake in the title. I've read pretty much every customize/appearance thread in the forum and I'm loving the ideas and enthusiasm everyone has for their dart! I wanted to start a new thread for a couple of reasons. First I wanted to give and get ideas from people on how to customize their car and to post pictures and tutorial videos for people that want to safely and correctly make their dart unique and special (as if it wasn't already). I hope this thread will be helpful and informative as well for everyone!

DISCLAMER The videos and site links are not to promote any product but to rather instruct and give a strong foundation as to where to look and research

DEBADGING

*Things you can use floss (if your on a budget), piano wire (best bet), thin wire (not advised), and tweezers (make sure you use tweezers that arc inward so that the outer side of the tweezers are smooth and will not scratch the clear coat. See link below)

*Ecommerce Demo - Tweezers - Round Tip Tweezer

*Weather plays a huge factor in de-badging if its above 0C using a blow dryer and floss/wire will do the trick. Where I live it's winter right now and I had to use a blow dryer and tweezers (be careful to not scratch the clear coat)

*Take your time don't rush the job trust me alot of people do this half way through a project!

*If you're going to use something like Goo Gone to take off the excess paste on you car then PUT ON GLOVES! Safety is always first, remember it's a highly toxic liquid it will absorb into your skin. Also dispose of the rage as well after the project is done!

INTERIOR LED LIGHTING
LEDGlow Lighting
Home - StreetGlow Inc. - Performance LED and Neon Lighting Accessories
PlasmaGlow

*If you're going to do interior lighting then I'd advise you to either get a cigarette adaptor, fuse adaptor, or wire the positive lead straight to the car battery (with a fuse on the line) DO NOT SPLICE EVER! you will cause a fire or a short and is the LED kit worth $1,000.00 in electrical repairs to your car? see the 2 links below for the adaptors

*LEDGlow
*New Ledglow Expandable Circuit w 4 Amp Mini Fuse Kit 12V Adapter | eBay

WHAT NOT TO DO!

*This person not only splices the + and - wires but he uses speaker wire and NO FUSE on the lead line! I repeat DO NOT DO THIS!

HOW TO INSTALL THROUGH THE CAR BATTERY

*Note the fuse (thick white part) on the positive lead to prevent fires, shorts, etc
*I know he doesn't technically wire it to the battery but you get the idea of how the setup looks
*You can also lead the wires from the battery through the firewall (most common) then the door like what he did in the video
*Make sure you ground the - black wire to a bolt on the car

HOW TO INSTALL A FUSE ADAPTOR

*Note 1:16-1:50 in the video

No video is needed for the cigarette lighter adaptor as it is very simple to install + to + - to - then plug in

I'll clean it up a bit thank you about the brake light! you'd think I don't own a dart by not knowing that one

#7 ·
So today I installed my LED kit and decided to make a walk-through for anyone that is interested in a professional setup. Here we go!

TOOLS NEEDED
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_215253_zps5efb158d-1_zps8e67a093.jpg
*The tools are called Trim Tool (for interior panel removal without scratching and made of hard plastic)

http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_215316_zps150e1190.jpg
*This light is awesome! it clips on and is very adjustable. Google the brand name to find a store near you for it.

THE PROJECT
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_172712_zps64c7702c.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_172436_zps0a8a04e4.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_172449_zps273a017f.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_172545_zps9c732f94.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_172857_zpsa911f042.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_173508_zps74a2bd11.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_174314_zpsc94c99a7.jpg
*The thing that looks like a screw hole be very careful when feeding the LED housing through the carpet underneath cause I broke it off. I slightly pulled back the paneling and seperated it BUT all it's there for is to secure the side paneling to the metal frame (not a big mess up cause it's still very secure). I ended up pushing the carpet inward to create a gap for the LED housing to fit through (see image below for carpet)
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_174613_zpsc907a01e-1_zps5f85387a.jpg
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_174527_zps18cd4faa-1_zpsdcc4bf7d.jpg
*The line that's feeding out of the bottom will be installed under the driver/passenger seats closer to the belt buckle to be discrete
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_175637_zpsf522b834.jpg
*I decided to mount the control box in that in cove area so I had to run the line into that part of the paneling to make it clean
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_175755_zps488841d7-1_zps64c5f8b5.jpg
*I left a bit of the line out so that you'd be able to see where it goes
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_175846_zps556775de.jpg
*After I cleaned it though I used the trim tool to shove it further up into the paneling after this photo
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_175924_zpsb0f42cba-1_zps11e67835.jpg
*Once again I left the line out for reference. I coiled up the excess line and zip tied the coil and put it behind that panel which was a perfect fit!
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_213431_zps933e095a.jpg
*Above the LED bar is a box that has very small holes you can put zip tie through to mount the LED
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_191236_zps32bbda8f.jpg
*The left zip tie had the carpet molding to tie around but the right zip tie I had to make a small incision to fit it through
http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b495/bodmon1/20130104_185011_zpsc675578c.jpg
*Yes I know I'm using the cigarette lighter adapter that's because I don't want to dismantle and maybe break any paneling clips since they're not the best quality (does any car have good quality clips?). Also If I have to replace anything I can do it VERY easily and besides you can't see the control box and barely the adapter at night when you'll be using the LEDs!

PM me if you want or need any help installing your's!

How To Install Audio System
Thank You jordandeangelis & bdwin for the guide!
"this is the right-rear passenger door and I managed to splice the two speaker wires, which I chose the rear left and rear right because I looked into ripping the dash apart to get to the radio module but decided it was not worth it. I believe the radio module is behind the glove compartment, which requires taking apart the driver side dash, the climate control as well as console surrounding it, and then some brackets that have impossible angled screws behind the glove compartment." - jordandeangelis

"Next is to run the positive, fused 8ga wire back from the battery through an existing grommet in the firewall. I'm probably going to try and do this on the driver's side because that's more than likely where the amp is going. Then I have to find a suitable grounding point or make one (I don't use a ground any longer than 24 inches ever). Mount the amp, plug it all in and I should be done if it all works right!!." - jordandeangelis

You can use these plastic tools which are nice also! They're made by Pro Point I got them at Princess Auto

I couldn't get this panel off after I took out the bolts/plug in clips I think you might have to take off the front end to get it out.

So I ended up going through here to get at the clips behind the crosshair. You will need two people for this job one to use the plastic tools or flat head to GENTLY pry the crosshair as you push/pull the clips
from behind the crosshair. Every odd clip needs to be pushed down to release and the evens need to be pulled up. TAKE YOUR TIME DON'T RUSH it took me 30min to get it out start of the edged and work you way into the middle of the crosshair. DON'T DO THIS IN COLD WEATHER the clips have a better chance to break off!

Hey Bodmon. I ran into you today near your buddies place in Brampton. Great job on the custom front grille paint! Looks awesome - everyone here will certainly be as impressed as i was. Hit me up about the intercooler pipes once you have more info. I'm definitely interested in having it done professionally!

I'm not a do it your selfer so I went to a local shop to check them out. The place looked really clean, their worked looked spot on, and the Owner and namesake of the company was personally showing me around. I was VERY impressed. But...When I walked in I saw a receptionist, a snack area with free espresso, beverage cooler, and fresh fruit, and with just a quick peak in the office I saw at least 3 office workers. The only thing I thought was, "I don't want to pay for all of this". I'll be curious when they send me their estimates.

@bodmon just wondering if you know how to take off the "fog accents" for the 2014 SXT. There are no actual fog lights there, it's just a silver line. I'd love to paint mine red, but don't know how well I'd be able to mask it all off. Hopefully you or someone else knows how to take it out. It might be the same as on the others, but I'm just not sure.

use a lift/jack up the front end and take off the splash guard (held into place by plastic rivets & bolts). There are walkthroughs with pictures on how to take off that guard with pictures in this forum, once it's off the silver trim is held into place from the interior by clips. (use a flat head to gentle pry the clips from the housing)

HAVE A PERSON PULL THE TRIM FROM THE EXTERIOR SIDE WHILE YOU PRY IT FROM THE INTERIOR
