1.4L spark plugs - correct gap is .028", NOT .025"

      Hey guys,

So I just had a convo with an NGK representative who was very confused on why the Dart manual states the gap is .025", when their info shows the plugs they sent to Chrysler were .028". He checked with a Chrysler rep who verified that the gap is .028, it looks like there's a typo in the manual.

He also verified that this plug I found at Oreily's is the OEM plug: NGK Laser Iridium 93618 - Spark Plug | O'Reilly Auto Parts

$12 beats the crap out of $33

Maybe they originally went with .025 gaps because they are 30K mile plugs. Every person who has posted up their old plugs around that mileage has had the gap increase too much (imo), but it would have been much worse if they started out .003 in. wider. Just a complete guess......

He never stated they started out with .025, that they've always been .028. Very strange...

I am surprised that it would be a typo, as the NGK rep says........maybe his office is BYOB.

I had a similar occurrence with the spark gap on my Smart. manual says one thing, purchased part said something else, and what was actually in the car stock was neither of the two. Took a few tries, but did finally work it out. Spending a day pulling the plugs and then test driving before pulling them again wasn't fun.

I'll be getting some myself in the next couple weeks as I'm approaching that 30k and already can tell that they are't all firing optimally. Thanks for the info.

Edit: just to double-check, I'm assuming those plugs are already gapped a 0.028 yes?

I just did a quick search, on the NAPA auto parts website it says they are pre-gapped to 0.036

I just compared the 2014 Dart owners manual to the 2013.

The 2013 states 0.025 and the 2014 states 0.026. (The 2015 manual isn't out yet)

Just wanted to post an update....

While I was ordering these for mine, I tried to find them on Amazon again and finally did, but they're "out of stock".
Amazon.com: NGK (93618) SIKR9A7 Laser Iridium Spark Plug: Automotive

Edit: Dangit, O'Rilley is out of stock too.

Just order them from O'reilys, and they will ship them to the store in a few days. I just picked mine up last week. I am curious about the gap now though, I haven't replaced mine yet and I don't want to have to do it twice in this cold weather.
