    Turbo Upgrade???

I know it won't be a while but just curious, with the new multi air technology (im a little iffy on how it works) can anyone see a bigger turbo kit coming in the future? I know VW has their Polo WRC running 300+ hp out of a 1.4 twincharged. We already run 22 pounds of boost at peak but i know turbo'd cars have so much potential just waiting with fuel system upgrades and tuning

You are a long way from maxing out the turbo. Like you said I would upgrade the fuel system, flow of fresh air, exhaust and give the PCM a tune. Consider getting a wideband AFR to make sure you are spot on during boost.

I get the first stuff about better fuel flow, and better breathing (in and out), but what's an AFR?

    AFR: air/fuel ratio.
Not sure about the FPT PCM but if its anything like GPEC2>, it'll be a while before anyone can tune it.

AFR is a simple yet complicated thing. If you add more air than fuel, you go lean. If you add more fuel than air, you go rich. Lean causes your engine to go boom and rich causes you (for the most part) to bog down. If you add the perfect amount of both, you go fast.

Here are some types. The AEM is the most prevalent one, its the one I have and I like it. Some hate it and they like the AFX style or the Innovative because they feel they work better. Not many people use the Autometer. Though I do use Autometer for all my other gauges.

thanks 3gn that page helped, i already knew what afr was but its nice to learn about the stoichiometry and the "perfect air-fuel ratio" 2 thinks that got me a little scared though were where it said "A stoichiometric mixture unfortunately burns very hot and can damage engine components if the engine is placed under high load at this fuel–air mixture" and the "In reality, most fuels consist of a combination of heptane, octane, a handful of other alkanes, plus additives including detergents... These compounds all alter the stoichiometric ratio, with most of the additives pushing the ratio downward" is there any way to know what AFR will be spot on for what octane grades?

Getting the perfect mixture would be a ghost chase. The cars PCM does all the thinking in finding out what is best for the condition under any load. Buy quality gas from a reputable station and stick with that one brand and octane level. If the engine starts to run too hot, I'm sure the PCM will lean out to compensate for the extra heat build up.

Btw, the 1.4L turbo already has a wideband O2 sensor. You just need a way to monitor it.
